 The Strigops habroptilus is a unique parrot with many features and is now a critically endangered species under tight protection. Strigops habroptilus is the only flightless parrot, it lives at night, is the longest-lived bird and largest parrot known, it has very specific mating rituals and other features that make Strigops habroptilus special but also vulnerable. Strigops habroptilus, known as the Kakapo, is the only living member of the Strigopidae parrot family. It is native to New Zealand and has unique and rare characteristics (New Zealand Charitable Trust, 2011). Kakapos are the largest parrots, reaching 4 kg in weight and size. It is also known as the longest-lived bird in the world, with a lifespan ranging from 60 to 90 years.
